California Distinguished School Award Recipients
Distinguished Schools logo The California Distinguished School Program, initiated in 1985, honors elementary and secondary schools in alternate years. The School Recognition Program, created in 1985 as part of the accountability initiative, communicates and reinforces the educational priorities of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the State Board of Education. It rewards schools that are successfully implementing those priorities, and identifies models of achievement for other schools.top.jpg (1043 bytes)
Calif. Regional Science, Math & Engineering Fair Winners
Science Fair logo The goal of this program is to encourage students in grades 6-12 to learn about science by doing their own science fair projects. The Fair affords an opportunity to recognize these students and their mentors for their efforts. History Day logo History Day's goal is to promote the study of history by engaging students in the excitement of historical inquiry and creative presentation. Participating students gain useful historical knowledge and perspective, and they develop critical thinking and problem solving skills that help them manage and use information now and in the future. Mock Trial Winners
Mock Trial logo The Mock Trial is designed to demystify the working of our legal institutions. Teams of high school students study a hypothetical criminal case, do legal research, are coached by volunteer attorneys, and present their case in court before Municipal and Superior Court Judges. No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools
Blue Ribbon logo Sponsored by the U. S. Department of Education, the program identifies and recognizes outstanding public and private elementary and secondary schools in alternating years. All of California's public schools that were site-visited were selected for national recognition, and all of them were previously designated as California Distinguished Schools. Physical Fitness Pentathlon Winners
Pentathlon logo The Fresno County Office of Education and Dan Gamel are proud to sponsor the first annual Physical Fitness Pentathlon. This event is designed to focus attention on the physical well being of school children and to create a day-long series of activities that promote physical fitness. Spell Off logo What's in a word? Plenty, especially when it's the rigors of an annual spelling bee and the participants are Fresno County elementary and junior high school students. Young Authors' Faire Winners
Young Authors' logo This celebration of talent showcases original student writing in Fresno County. Ten K-6 students from each participating school may submit books they have written and illustrated.
